Tipping Guide

Tipping is something that many people ask me about, especially people new to all-inclusive resorts. Money is something that most people are hesitant to talk about in almost all areas, but I think my guests and most people reading this can get some value from this post. For this post, when I reference a dollar amount, it’s in USD.

One of the things that make tipping a little confusing is that there are no prices on most items like food and drink. That alone makes it impossible to follow your normal gratuity because tipping 20%, 25%, or 30% of $0 is still $0 (feel free to check my math).

Second, the conversion rate can be a little confusing. As of the day this was written, $1 equals 17 pesos.

With all that in mind, I will share how much I usually tip on average for various services.

  • Drinks prepared or brought to me: $2
  • Meal service: $5
  • Airport Driver: $5 to $20 depending on distance and engagement
  • Spa Treatments: $10 to $40 depending on length and quality of treatment
  • Bellman: $1 – $2 per bag
  • Maids: $4/day or $20 – $25 week
  • Room Service: $5 – $10 depending on size of your order
  • Golf Cart Driver: $2 – $4 Tour Guide: $5
  • Butler Service (at both Le Blanc Properties): $50 to $100 for 5-7 nights. This will depend HIGHLY on how much you use them. If they unpack your bags, iron your clothes every day, and prepare your jacuzzi every other day, please tip generously.

I want to emphasize again that these are not set in stone and are just to give folks an idea of how much one guy goes about tipping. Adjust as you see fit.
